Safety Features & Protection Systems

Sectional overhead doors are designed with multiple integrated safety systems to ensure safe operation in both manual and automated environments. These features protect personnel, vehicles, and equipment during daily use.

Safety Edge and Light Curtain (Automated Doors)

For electrically operated doors, advanced safety systems can be installed to protect the full door opening.

Safety Edge
When fitted, the safety edge detects contact during the closing cycle. If an obstruction is encountered, the door will immediately stop and automatically reverse, preventing injury or damage.

Light Curtain
A light curtain provides full-width protection across the opening. If any person, vehicle, or object is detected while the door is closing, the system instantly stops and reopens the door. This is particularly beneficial in high-traffic environments.

Finger Protection

Finger protection is a key safety feature built into sectional door panel design.

• Mandatory (CE compliant) on doors where the pivot point of the top section is below 2.5 metres

• Prevents finger trapping between panel joints

• Can be specified on taller doors for enhanced safety

Core Safety Devices (As Standard)

To ensure safe and controlled operation, sectional overhead doors are equipped with the following critical safety components:

Spring Break Safety Device
Prevents the door from falling in the event of spring failure, ensuring controlled stopping and eliminating risk from sudden door drop.

Cable Break Safety Device
Stops the door immediately if a lifting cable fails, maintaining stability and preventing uncontrolled movement.

Slack Cable Safety Device
Detects loss of cable tension and halts operation, ensuring safe operation at all times.

Additional Safety & Control Features

Depending on door size, usage, and method of operation, further safety enhancements can be incorporated:

• Safety Edge – standard for electrically operated doors

• Smart Lock Device – improves security and controlled locking

• Finger Protection – included as standard where required, optional on larger doors
