High Speed Insulated Roller Shutter Doors

High Speed Roller Shutter Doors for Energy Efficiency & Performance

High speed roller shutter doors are designed for environments where speed, efficiency and environmental control are critical. By significantly reducing the time an opening is exposed, they help maintain internal conditions, improve workflow and reduce operating costs.

The Dual Door

High speed roller shutter doors offer a true Dual Door solution, combining rapid operation with the strength of a steel insulated shutter in a single system.

In many environments, fabric high-speed doors are used during the day, with a separate steel shutter required for out-of-hours security. A high speed roller shutter removes this need — delivering both high-speed performance and robust physical protection from one door. The insulated curtain also provides a high level of thermal performance when the door is closed, helping retain heat and maintain internal conditions outside working hours.

Operating at speeds up to 1,000mm per second, these doors are designed for busy industrial applications where frequent access, environmental control and security are essential. By reducing open time, they minimise heat transfer and air exchange, while still providing the durability expected from a steel shutter.

The result is a simpler, more efficient solution — one door instead of two — reducing installation complexity, maintenance and overall cost.

Why Choose A High Speed Insulated Roller Shutter?

Improved Efficiency

Fast opening and closing speeds reduce waiting times for vehicles and personnel, helping maintain smooth workflow and improving productivity in high-traffic areas.

Temperature Control

Reduced open time limits the loss of heated or cooled air, helping maintain stable internal conditions in both ambient and controlled environments.

Energy Savings

By reducing air exchange, high speed doors significantly lower the demand on heating and refrigeration systems, helping reduce overall energy consumption and running costs.

Improved Working Environment

Fast acting operation reduces draughts, airborne pollution and contamination, helping maintain cleaner and more controlled internal conditions.

Security & Protection

Fast operation reduces exposure during the day, while the insulated steel curtain provides a solid out-of-hours barrier — effectively replacing the need for a second door

Where Are Insulated High Speed Doors Used?

High speed roller shutter doors are commonly installed on:

  • Warehouse openings

  • Loading bays

  • Production areas

  • Dispatch facilities

  • Temperature-controlled environments

  • External openings exposed to wind pressure

  • High-traffic forklift routes

In many applications, they are selected where a conventional roller shutter may be too slow, but a fabric high speed door may not provide the required durability or security.

For larger logistics and distribution facilities, our warehouse high speed doors are designed to support intensive operational use while helping to improve environmental control.

Where the opening is exposed to external weather conditions or wind loading, our external high speed doors can offer additional resistance and operational reliability.

Insulated Lath Performance

The insulated shutter curtain is manufactured from a lightweight, double-skin lath with a full internal core, providing a strong balance of thermal efficiency, durability and operational performance.

Tested in accordance with BS EN 10077-1:2006 (Exova Warrington APT Laboratories), the lath achieves a thermal resistance of 1.1 m²K/W, which equates to a U-value of approximately 0.91 W/m²K. This value relates specifically to the lath section itself, rather than the complete installed shutter, as overall U-values will vary depending on door size, detailing and installation conditions.

In addition to its thermal properties, the lath delivers an acoustic attenuation of 22dB, helping reduce noise transfer between areas. Air permeability is measured at 1.95 m³/h·m² @ 50Pa, supporting improved environmental control, while the system achieves Wind Load Class 5 (without wind endlocks), demonstrating excellent structural performance.

Despite its strength and insulation performance, the curtain remains extremely lightweight at just 11.99 kg/m², allowing for high-speed operation with reduced mechanical load and long-term reliability.

Key Features

Opening speeds up to 1,000mm per second

  • High frequency operation for intensive use

  • Safety edge and photocell protection systems

  • Durable construction for long service life

  • Reduced maintenance and downtime

  • Designed for continuous daily operation

Combining Speed with Security

One of the key advantages of a high speed roller shutter door is that it combines the operational speed of a traditional high speed door with the physical strength of a steel roller shutter curtain.

This makes it particularly suitable for industrial buildings that require:

• fast opening speeds
• reduced heat loss
• improved environmental separation
• physical security out of hours
• resistance to accidental impact
• reliable operation in demanding environments

Unlike some fabric-based systems, high speed roller shutters can provide a stronger physical barrier when the building is unattended.

Benefits ot Dual Door

Reducing Heat Loss Through Frequently Used Openings

In many industrial buildings, significant heat loss occurs not through the wall itself, but through the amount of time an opening remains open during daily operation.

By reducing opening and closing times, high speed roller shutter doors can help:

• Reduce unwanted heat transfer
• Minimise draughts
• Improve temperature stability
• Reduce airborne contamination
• Improve working conditions
• Lower overall energy consumption

This can become particularly important on warehouse openings with frequent traffic movement throughout the working day.

Our ROI savings page explains how reducing open-door exposure time can influence long-term operational efficiency and potential energy reduction.

Reducing heat loss through frequently used openings

Worked Example

A 5m x 5m industrial opening used continuously throughout the day can allow substantial heat loss when left open unnecessarily.

If the operating cycle time of the doorway is reduced through the use of a high speed door system, the cumulative reduction in heat loss over a full year can become commercially significant.

This is one of the reasons many industrial operators review high speed doors as part of wider energy reduction strategies.

Why Choose a High Speed Roller Shutter Instead of a Fabric Door?

While fabric high speed doors are ideal for many internal applications, a high speed roller shutter door may be preferred where additional:

• Physical security
• Durability
• Wind resistance
• Insulation
• External performance

is required.

This makes them particularly suitable for external warehouse openings and industrial environments where operational performance and security are equally important.
